Artist's Bio

Dougy G Music (Doug Grant) is an independent instrumental music composer. Born in the United States, however raised in Jamaica West Indies and of Jamaican parents. Most of his education (from Prep School and High School to early College) was done in Jamaica. Thus giving him a first hand experience and appreciation of the island's culture. Hence, in the true spirit of Sankofa, channeling the vibe, spirituality and substance of the sounds that gave us the roots of Reggae music. This is the foundation from which his compositions are made. He describes his music as having a traditional Reggae / Ska vibe, sometimes with a little Jazz Fusion influence. So be warned, there is plenty of heavy bass to go around also (lol).

(meaning of Sankofa: Sankofa is a principle derived from the Akan people of Ghana, that one should remember the past to make positive progress in the future). During the period of British rule, slaves brought into Jamaica were primarily Akan. The Akan (then called Coromantee) culture was the dominant African culture in Jamaica.
